this happened to my buddy Eric
-
when benedict cumberbatch is invested in a script, he gives the best performances of any actor ever lived. patrick melrose is another mini-series he did, a story that explores childhood trauma and problematic family dynamics - it's similar to eric, in a way. he's acting his ass off, and it's amazing to watch. he's also just a brilliant cast as a troubled boy of abusive upper class parents.
but acting is not the only good part. the script is also just brilliant. the worldbuilding was constructed to the utmost, all social justice problems of the 80s were highlighted without any unnecessary dramatics. an intense story with twists and turns. a just bunch of very different characters, all contributing to the compelling plot.
eric is a tough watch, at times, given the subject matter. the pace is slow and builds that extra tension that makes you wanna finish the series in one sitting. a strong entry from as-of-late-very-shitty netflix

Daddy issues, white privilege, homelessness, homophobia and the AIDS epidemic, addiction, corruption, police brutality, class disparity and some mystery thrown in for good measure - it’s a lot to tackle but the beautifully shot and gripping Eric gives it a red hot go

It’s 4 am and I just binge watched this. Felt a million different things. I love morally gray characters that you can root for.

"Race you home"
Runs while being cheered by a crowd of people protesting against homelessness
Good premise, weird execution.
80s NY 8/10 and some of the acting was pretty cool.
