The biopic genre is very complicated due to the difficulty to narrate real life events and unfortunately I think this film could’ve done more justice to Bob Marley.
Kingsley Ben-Adir completely disappears into the role, he was the ideal choice to play Bob Marley. Lashana Lynch was also incredible as Rita Marley, both performances are the standouts of this film. Although the story is focused on a very important part of his life, it lacked a bit of depth. The vibes were still immaculate for the most part, specially in the wonderful Jamaica settings, and of course thanks to the ridiculously good songs from Bob Marley, fitting each situation perfectly. The illustration of the creative process behind his songs was also really fun to watch.
I enjoyed the film just thought it should’ve relied less on the songs, which we already know how great they are, focusing more on the storytelling, that actually had a lot of potential.
during this movie, you will come to a point where you ask yourself, “there’s no way they can show that shot of little Bob running through a burning field again, right?” and then, just as soon as the thought finishes crossing your mind, you will be proven wrong. multiple times.
LASHANA LYNCH!!
sit me in front of any music biopic and i’m having a good time
sorry not sorry🤷♀️
This is about to be THE film for white girls that come back from holiday with braids.
Imagine your legacy being freedom, peace and love?!?! It's so powerful, and we can only hope our legacies are close to that.
But the movie didn’t really explain much. I liked it a lot but I feel like it deserved a bit more depth — more about his childhood, his way to become a legend of reggae, his life before this. And it was longer than necessary, specially considering it left so much history out of it. But it was good!! I was entertained and I liked the cast, the cinematography and the songs a lot. Wouldn't mind rewatching.
