  Blood Diamond tried to be a critique of consumerism, and it failed to address anything, did not even touch on colonialism, the source of African people's struggles. It was supposed to be a story that calls out the exploitation of black people, yet no black person's voice was heard. Quite the contrary, it was a racist white man that guided us throughout the story while the black identity was depicted in extremely simplistic manners. In the film, the africans are either the suffering slaves, or the savage warlords- unlike the rational white journalist and the complex white smuggler, who would later save the day.   So even though the movie has a terrifying background story it's surprisingly funny with a lot of sarcastic comments and a Leonardo DiCaprio whos accent is amazing. I watched the movie with a friend who knows every line. He said that the movie is not as good as it used to be in the last couple of watches. I have watched "Blood Diamond" the first time and I have really positive memorise. We nearly end up in a drinking game everytime Leo said JA JA. So speaking of Leo, he and Dijmon Hounsou are perfect in here and a high range of emotion. I like DiCaprio with every movie…

  It’s attempting to be this big, epic action film that ultimately critiques the problematic nature with the international blood trade, yet in doing so, it feels as if it is a glamorization rather than a study on the horrific events. While certain, if not many, sequences are disturbing in their own right, it feels too “blockbuster-y” to take seriously. It isn’t an immediate, effective dangerous warning like Saving Private Ryan or a long-term, poetic study on war’s effects like The Thin Red Line, it results in a way that feels too glossy and surface level but I can maybe recognize that it might not wanna be taken too seriously.

  Too thoughtlessly exploitative/condescending (in the same way most Hollywood films about purging guilt in a foreign land are) to be the conscious consumption melodrama it wants to be, but also way too long and sentimental to be an effective thriller. Crazy to think there was a time when Zwick's name held some prestige to it. Rare L for Leo as well, even in his bad movies he typically comes out looking like one of the stronger parts of it but Connelly and Hounsou absolutely wipe the floor with him in this. Almost burst out laughing when Shine on 'Em by Nas hit during the credits, genuinely surprised it wasn't Kanye's Diamonds from Sierra Leone.

  You know? Even if it were any other woman, I would not buy it, but this soldier stopping by to take some pictures by and with Jennifer Connelly makes perfect sense.

  So wow! An absolutely horrific, bloody, ruthless, and wild film that depicts a real event that as the film pointed out, still occurs on a large scale today. It left me feeling many of the same emotions ("both positive and negative") that Fukunaga's "Beast With No Nation" provoked in me, however it is clear that while the former is a more character-driven film, this one is very much in line with Zwick's epics and also much Hollywoodized. As a result, I can see why many may find the writing…

  Blood Diamond is a solid movie, with excellent acting and a serious and important topic that i'm really happy that i learn about it thanks to this movie.

  I wish the movie had focused more in Djimon Hounsou, who in my opinion was the emotional anchor and the most interesting part of all the movie. Also the story of the movie feels really convoluted and some topics are not explore enough.

  So I've decided to make my own 'A Favourite Film for each Year of my Life-List. As always this is just my personal opnion, I'm not saying these are the best movies, they are just my favourites. Also there are many movies I haven't seen yet, so this list could still change in the future.

  Sometimes I wonder... will god ever forgive us for what we've done to each other? Then I look around and I realize... God left this place a long time ago.

  Ok first of all I'd like to apologize for choosing this over The Departed for my 2006 entry. Blood Diamond might not be the better movie, but it has a special place in my heart.…

  This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

  At its core this film is much more than a brutal action adventure, it is a very touching and beautiful story of family being taken away from each other and a father who stops at nothing to reunite them, it’s also a story of a greedy man who ends up changing that one mans life forever and overcomes his own greed in order to better someone else’s life. I also find it very poetic that Leo’s character died similarly to Arthur Morgan, overlooking a beautiful view on a mountain top, fending off the enemy so that his friend will get a chance to live a long happy life while at the same time he finds that inner piece within himself. This is a FANTASTIC movie, most say it’s not very rewatchable but this is definitely a film I look forward to revisiting. It makes me feel lucky for everything I have in my life.
