Batman: Year One is so faithful to its source material that it actually forgets that the cinematic medium provides its own set of tools, resources & opportunities to improve & elevate a written story to new heights and allow the fans to relive the experience in a more enriching fashion. It is a perfectly fine adaptation but not one that leaves a lasting mark.
Directed by Lauren Montgomery & Sam Liu, the film narrates two subplots unfolding concurrently, one concerning Bruce Wayne's transformation from man to myth while the other follows James Gordon's attempts to rid Gotham of crime & his department from corruption. However, only one character's story is actually interesting here and it isn't the titular figure.
Gordon's arc is thoroughly gripping,…
Well, what a pleasant surprise. Expecting to be comparing this to Nolan's saga all the way through, this kept me completely focused on the events that play out here. What we have is a brutal, vulnerable Dark Knight; Batman is angrier and more uncompromising than ever.
But this isn't a Batman film. It's a Jim Gordon film. Bryan Cranston and the OTT animated format turn the normally mild-mannered lieutenant into a complete bad-ass on a number of occasions. Is this a bad thing? Hell no!
If I have one complaint, it's the lack of a proper antagonist. We have a few characters out to thwart our two 'heroes' (I say that in inverted commas because they're more sinners than saints),…
Solid animated Batman film with a pretty incredible voice cast. They did a great job of adapting Frank Miller’s classic story that really helped redefine Batman entirely. Obviously if someone were to watch this today most would just think this is the most generic Batman related thing ever and it’s copying Batman Begins but this story was extremely important for the character and it was very original at the time of it’s release.

This one features a fun take on the classic Batman origin story that is told (mostly) from the perspective of Commissioner Gordon. Featuring adult themes and a side of the story that we have yet to see on the small screen, this takes on the beginning of the Batman in an interesting way. We get a ton of narration and a classic look into how it all started. I also love the subplot of Gordon trying to figure out who this masked vigilante is. The clear standout is Bryan Cranston as Gordon. His voice works…
Absolutely brilliant great story and origin story between Batman and Gordon. Loved the entire story and definitely got me hooked and just wanting more.I’m not a bag fan of the animation in this movie however it still looks beautiful. I can’t get over Bryan Cranston’s voice, all the way through the movie I just kept think it’s perfect casting. Definitely give this a watch if you love the animation 👏👏🦇🦇🎥🎥
For people who don't know, Batman: Year One is a comic series that explores Bruce Wayne's first year as a crimefighter, from when he dons the cape to Gordon's tumultuous start as commissioner. The story features a flawless structure and a beautiful flow, with seamless time-skips. The animation is exceptional, making it one of the finest DC animated films I've seen. The attention to detail is amazing, and it's always a delight to see the early dynamics between Gordon and Bruce. While it shares some elements with "Mask of the Phantasm," it delves deeper into Bruce's first year. It’s definitely one of my favorite DC animated movies.
Also, I'm confused about Jim Gordon's family, particularly the differences between pre-Crisis and post-Crisis continuity it’s quite confusing tbh.

I love a great cat character.
This is a nifty telling of Bruce Wayne's first year as a vigilante, including the creation of Batman. The animation is pretty nice and the story is interesting because not a ton of the stories give as much depth on his beginnings. It was just the right amount of grit without feeling like it was trying to hard. Overall I enjoyed it there just wasn't a lot that wowed me.
For Batman or DC fans.
