Hell, might be the best animated superhero movie. Ever.
Batman finally gets to be the crazy badass we all know he is and it is just a blast to watch. Peter Weller is as excellent of a Batman voice as Kevin Conroy. The story itself is excellent and so is the action, animation, and just the overall tone the film has. It just fits so well and so does the message the film has. Intelligent, engaging, and exciting from beginning to end.
Part 2 can't come faster. Since the end, I'm dying to see it.

Frank Miller's 1986 mini series The Dark Knight Returns is without exaggeration the most influential Batman story ever written. Some might say that it's actually Batman: Year One, but that's what Frank Miller followed up with and the success of DKR obviously influenced the tone of Year One. So there you go. Those two stories forever changed how future writers approached the character of Batman and is responsible for how most people envision the character to this day, whether or not they've ever read a comic book.

Better late than never. Just watched the best Batman animated film. A dark edge of the seat thriller with some great action sequences. BGM was so haunting. I'm wondering this movie came six years ago.

Jay Oliva's Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 is the first in a two-part adaptation of Frank Miller's 1986 comic book miniseries of the same name that managed to be both disappointing and obnoxious even without prior knowledge of the source material. Perhaps this was the problem, as I see the majority complimenting its graceful adjustment to an animated film. I felt it had poor pacing, painfully uninteresting characters, banal, clunky dialogue, uninspired animation, and a humdrum narrative- all of which I did not expect in an acclaimed Batman film. The only memorable moment of this movie was the Joker saying "Darling," so I presume his addition in the second part might make for a more enjoyable experience. I AM BATMAN!!

I’m not as obsessed with Batman as a character like everyone else on the planet is so this couldn’t possibly resonate with me as much as it does for most people. Going into this knowing it’s praised as one of the greatest Batman movies is a lot of hype to live up to. But, for the most part, it does leave a lasting impression with it’s impressive approach at the darker side of the character that was explored by Frank Miller’s four issue comic that it’s based on. Seeing the character with an older state of mind is a refreshingly different take on the character we’ve all seen so many times. And you feel every bit of the well…
Overall this was really GREAT, it’s a very unique interpretation of the character and you can clearly see some of the inspiration for Zack Synder’s Batman V Superman in the film, I really can’t wait to watch part 2.
