I just spent 10 minutes reading reviews for this on Letterboxd and man do I feel bad for the people that couldn't or didn't want to have fun with this. Such a great little film that's both original and gorgeous to look at. It's out of its damn mind for sure but man did I have a blast.

I guarantee you have never seen a Batman film like this one before. Batman Ninja is an animated Batman film made entirely in Japan, where Bruce Wayne and a group of his worst enemies and allies are transported back in time to feudal Japan, and have to adapt to the environment as they wage war over the country.
I was looking forward to this ever since it was first announced. What a brilliant idea, it completely switches things up but it is also perfectly in line with the characters - Batman is a mythical ninja/samurai, The Joker is a demented warlord, Bane is a sumo wrestler, Catwoman is an elegant geisha, and so forth. It has a huge roster of…

pardon my french but this movie was batshit

Anime tropes with Batman in it. This will inevitably be watched by people who barely watch anime, and will be reminded of why they don't. It's a bunch of ridiculous shit that doesn't add up, and ends up alienating those that wanted a good Japanese story with Batman as the main character. Instead, it's the Kill la Kill anime without the charm or well written dialogue. It doesn't even have the fast pace of these other anime that it desperately tries to be. I think part of why it doesn't flow well is because of the ugly 3D video game look that this went for. (Though some of the scenary looks pretty). Not very sure if the inconsistencies were intentional,…

Batshit crazy and loads of fun. Yes the story is absurd nonsense, blending the most egregious tropes from both American comics and Japanese anime into a single piece of work. It feels completely self aware though, relishing in a constant stream of outlandish ideas. It'd be easy to poke holes in the film merely five minutes in, but to do so would be consciously making the decision not to just have fun.
While I do miss more traditional animation, Batman Ninja still looks good in its art style, a CG mimicking 2D aesthetic that is reminiscent of the Berserk films and the most recent JoJo's Bizarre Adventure adaptation. The icing here though is the amount of detail, from the comically…

Maaan this started really strong,I really love the idea of an anime Batman. But holy shit that esqualated quickly with the big ass castle suits and all of this crazy anime stuff.

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
The first 45 minutes of this movie had no right to be as great as they where. This was absolutely headed towards 5 star territory, the animation is spectacular, the ambience, every aesthetic choice it's magnificent and gorgeous.
But then it takes a massively stupid cliff dive in the second half, when a bunch of castles turn into transformers. I feel like maybe if this had been a 25 part series it could've built to it a lot more organically, but as it was it was way too much of a system shock given the tone of the first half. I appreciated how overindulgent it was with anime tropes, but it just got too much.
The voice acting is very…
