There are many films that I would be unlikely to watch unless they are designated as required watching from one of the lists that I fanatically complete (IMDB Top 250, Academy Award Nominees, Movies on my Friendwatch Project). A few weeks ago I watched Bobi Wine: the People's President today I watched Golda. Any time that I watch a historical piece or a biography, I usually like to check to see how accurate it is and how much has been exaggerated or fabricated. There seems to be some dispute about Golda -- as there often is with anything having to do with Israel, Palestine, and the Middle East. I do not know enough to comment...but Smithsonian Magazine is a highly reliable, unbiased source--so if you want to know more, consider reading this: The Real History Behind the ‘Golda’ Movie.
As far as the movie itself, Helen Mirren is an excellent actor. She portrays Golda as steadfast and hard but devoted. If it is true that the wars were followed on radio in almost a play-by-play manor, that is a really brutal way to learn about deaths and casualties and losses.
It is nominated for an Academy Award for Hair and Makeup. Despite some shortcomings with the film itself, it certainly earned that.
