Golda is a biographical drama film about the life of Golda Meir, the 4th Prime Minister of Israel, during the Yom Kippur War in 1973. The movie stars Helen Mirren as Golda, who gives an impressive performance of the charismatic and determined leader. The movie also shows the tense and crucial decisions that Golda had to make in the face of an unexpected and coordinated attack by Egypt and Syria on the holiest day of the Jewish calendar. However, the movie lacks depth and development of the supporting characters, especially the Israeli cabinet members and military leaders. The movie also fails to provide enough context and background for the viewers who are not familiar with the history and politics of the Middle East, and does not explore the perspectives and motivations of the Arab adversaries. The movie also suffers from a slow and uneven pace, and relies too much on historical footage and voice-overs to fill in the gaps. The movie is worth watching for Helen Mirren’s performance, but does not offer much insight or originality beyond that.
