Ended up walking in a bit of a daze as I left the theater. I was queasy and a bit disoriented thinking on what I’d seen. It was a mix of awe at what Nolan and everyone else in the cast had created and nausea at what the movie entails. Nolan has never made anything this formally sound, it’s non linear structure is not only clear enough to follow but perfectly placed around the trinity test so that each half feels like a build up and a come down. Career best performances from (and this is a list) Murphy, Downey Jr, Blunt, Safdie, Ehrenreich, DeHaan, Skarsgård, Krumholtz, Clarke, and Hartnett. Regarding specific scenes this has two of my favorite I’ve ever seen with the Trinity test and then shortly after the scene with an audience of cheering Americans celebrating the bomb. Also the line about Kyoto being spared was genuinely bone chilling and my packed theater gave out like a groan of disgust, the only noise anyone made in the back half of this. I’m rambling a bit, this was one of the best theater experiences of my life and probably Nolan’s best movie. I can’t believe I watched a three hour R rated drama consisting of mostly people talking in a completely packed theater. Movies might be back
