Even the craziest ideas can work. That's my verdict for Into the Spider-Verse.
I love Spider-Man. Who doesn't? It was the first super hero of came in contact with when I was a little kid. Superheroes weren't a big thing in Germany when I grew up. They were hardly known by anybody and only for the nerdiest of nerds.
Still I enjoyed Spider-Man. And he's probably the superhero I resonate the most with. But again, who doesn't? Like the Uncle Ben story this has been discussed to death.
So Spider-Verse. When I heard about the comic and that it features a crazy amount of different spider folks I thought it was a dumb idea. The movie that got announced logically didn't spark much interest as well. At first...
Then I saw a trailer. And the stylish unique visuals hooked me. And my hype train got going. Fast forward to the first overwhelming reactions and I was amazed how well received it was.
Still I was sceptical...
No need for sceptisism anymore. The movie is amazing. The best Spider-Man story to date. The visuals are bonkers. The story is fun and engaging. And the characters are all so lovable.
Of course it's an origin story. And those usually follow the same story beats. But here it takes a bit of a different turn and with the addition of multiple heroes it isn't as predictable.
The movie makes fun of itself, the franchise, Marvel, Spider-Man's history and and even the real world. But at the same time it pays so much respect to the characters, their creators and the legacy within.
Its heartwarming to see such a loving execution. But what amazes me the most is how this thing even got made in the first place. Kudos to Sony for giving the green light to something totally different.
Miles is fantastic. Spider-Man is fantastic. All the Spider-People are fantastic.
And this has THE BEST Stan Lee cameo of them all (on par with the Spider-Man PS4 game)
