This is my first time watching this with the brain of an adult, and I like it even more than I did when I was younger. Looking at it now I see a Jimmy Stewart led masterpiece, that is honestly done a disservice by its place as a “Christmas movie”. Sure it’s a great film to watch on Christmas Eve, it’s certainly a part of the movie, but like all great Christmas films it’s something more. It tells the story of a good man beaten down by the world, and then it shows him how much he matters. In turn it can show us how we matter hopefully. The story has been told over and over again at this point, but never again with the same impact and level of beautiful filmmaking. I also have to mention Donna Reed who is just as good as Stewart.
