Six teenaged friends are video chatting one night when they receive a message from a former classmate named Laura who killed herself a year ago after a humiliating video was posted online by her peers. They try to remove her but realize that all attempts are futile and failure to listen and respond results in death.
Unfriended and it's sequel Unfriended: Dark Web are two under the radar and criminally underrated horror films that I stumbled upon many years ago. At least that's how I remember them because I only saw them each one time and have vague fond memories of them both. I've been meaning to review them both for years but they rarely stream anywhere. Fortunately I found an old external hard drive full of movies and they were both on it. Tonight is now officially Unfriended night.
Unfriended is one of those films that is highly regarded in the horror community but criminally unknown outside of us. An internet based supernatural flick that set that standard for many more like it to follow. Make sure to keep that pause button handy because this is a fine example a the joints that have text either on a screen or in print media that should be paused and read to expand the backstory. Don't expect a bunch of gore here. Most of the plot is presented via webcams and the deaths are pretty subdued but the drama and frantic panic are high. This is an underrated horror gem worth a watch. Check it out.
