31 Days of Horror 2021 - Film 43
1977. Shortly after investigating the infamous Amityville Horror House, Ed and Lorraine Warren are called to a house in Enfield, England where a single mother and her four children reside. A house that is haunted by an evil that which may be greater than anything the Warrens have encountered before.
The Conjuring 2 is based on another real life case investigated by the infamous Warrens. It's popularly known as The Enfield Poltergeist Case. A haunting so severe that even the police were witness to some of the paranormal activity going on in that house. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are back again to further cement their spot as one of my favorite on screen couples and they're just as great as last time. The acting is just one of the many great things this film has going for it. Proper sound and well played jump scares bolster an awesome plot that I put on the same level as The Conjuring. Some aspects I like even better regarding both the plot and how some things are shot. There a few scenes that surpass the most creepy scenes in the first film and I personally think this ghost is more interesting than the last. Big talk, I know, but it's true.
The Conjuring Cinematic Universe is greatly expanded upon in The Conjuring 2 with the introduction of two demons, one of which got it's own spinoff film and the other is rumored to be in the works. Most of the film takes place in a small house and that's just fine because the set design inside of this house is incredible. The only gripe I have is a minor one, and it's some of the corny looking CGI used for both the demons and the ghost. I expect better than that. The Conjuring 2 is another bad ass offering from James Wan and is sure to satisfy any fan of the film before it. This isn't just a worthy sequel, it's one of the best sequels to a horror film. What an encore!
