31 DAYS OF HORROR 2022 - Film 2
Immediately following the events of the first film, the Lambert family is staying at Josh's mother's house while the police finish their investigation. It's here that they learn the history behind the Lambert family's strange ability and whether it's a gift or a curse. They also learn about an evil entity that aims to destroy their family and use Josh as a vessel to live once again.
Insidious: Chapter 2 is one of those sequels that is so closely tied to the plot of the film before it that it's best watched immediately after. Things that just seemed like random fodder in Insidious are explained in great detail and it goes a long way to make even the most obnoxious jump scares from that film seem awesome now. The backstory is fleshed out in a big way and we find out a lot of details about who the main antagonist really is thus far. This is a stellar example of a sequel done well.
I'll always believe that the ending of the first Insidious film served as a hinderance to the rest of the series, hence the need for prequels and flashbacks. Killing off a major character can be a bitch sometimes, especially in regard to subsequent entries who really could have used that character to make them better without jumping through hoops and road blocks. With that being said, they still did the best to make it work and I commend them for it. Insidious: Chapter 2 is a damn good sequel that stands right up there on the same level of the standard that the previous film set. The cast is every bit as good, and the growth of their characters is done very well. It's hard for me to find anything to complain about with the presentation or the writing so....I guess there won't be a paragraph dedicated to negativity this time around. ✌
The Insidious franchise is a prime example of how to do PG rated horror the right way, and this sequel is no exception to that point. At least this far into the overall arc. A must watch for fans of the first film. Onto the rest of the series! It's 31 Days of Horror after all.
