Saturday Night Shorts: Film 48
Franco is having a tough time dealing with the loss of his ex girlfriend, Alexia. Some time ago he dumped her and she killed herself. His grief is on a level that is hard to understand, and he finds himself looking at her old social media page far too often. He finally gets to the point where he unfriends the page. That is when he starts receiving messages from that profile. Messages from a dead woman, and she wants answers.
Over the past few weeks I reviewed a few short concept films for my Saturday Night Shorts project, so this week I wanted to return to a smaller film by a lesser known artist. Alexia is a short supernatural horror flick by Argentinian director Andrés Borghi that grapples with the concept of grief. It clocks in at a little over eight minutes, but by the time the credits rolled I felt as if I had just watched a thirty minute film, and I mean that in a GOOD way. There is a lot of awesomeness condensed into a small package. THIS is how you do a horror short well.
By the time it ended with some excellent FX I was left wishing for more. This definitely won't be the last Andrés Borghi film that I review for Saturday Night Shorts. I haven't had enough. Highly recommended!
