First off, I need to give credit to Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara for perfectly re-embodying these roles despite how much time has passed. None of them missed a beat, and I need to know Ryder's beauty regimen because she almost looks the same as she did in the original.

I don't think this sequel surpasses its predecessor, but I do think it's on par with it. I understand the critique many are having about this film being overstuffed with characters, because I do agree to an extent. Mostly, I felt Willem Dafoe's cop character was the one too many, but also I am not going to turn down Dafoe looking hot AF in noir detective mode. Yes, I would still do him even with part of his face and skull missing, but IDGAF. He's daddy AF. ANYWAYS! My biggest critique is actually the last 10 minutes of this film felt super duper rushed, like they didn't know what else to do after blowing their load with the amazing musical number and just threw a bunch of things together. Although I do find the Carrie homage (As soon as the music started, I giggled cause I knew what they were gonna do) and Delia and Charles' reunion amusing, I felt like everybody deserved a better resolution.

But, honestly, everything before those last 10 minutes, I absolutely love. I cackled like a lunatic at every single line reading from O'Hara, and I love that she got a bigger role in this installment. Jenna Ortega is kind of just doing her shtick, but I still enjoyed her as a skeptic foil to Lydia. I loved the implications that Lydia repeated everything that her parents did, and spends this movie trying to undo it. She's still a great protagonist, although I wish the extent of her powers were explored more since I felt they were underutilized. If we get a Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, I hope they explore her and Astrid expanding their gifts more. The Juice remains fabulous as always and, even though I know people find the Delores character the one character too many, I felt like she had a purpose as a plot device to push Betelgeuse and Lydia further together. By the way, Delores's introduction of reassembling her body is just beautiful in its body horror. I guarantee y'all, that scene alone is going to give kids these days nightmares.

I can go about so many more things, like the fanservice being the right kind of fanservice for me, how I do really appreciate not skimping on the horror or practical effects for the most part, the surprise appearance by Santiago Cabrera being welcome, #JUSTICEFORBOB!

But, I'll just leave it at if you liked the original like I do, you will hopefully have as much joy with this sequel as I did.

Oh, and I genuinely tittered at the little easter eggs for Schitt's Creek and Wednesday fans. IYKYK.
