This still blows me away. I've watched this a bunch of times since 2015 and I still can't believe just how much fun it is. George Miller returning to his franchise only to make it bigger and ballsier than ever, shedding the occasionally plodding nature of the franchise's previous peak of The Road Warrior, going all in on a 2 hour car chase.
The stunt work and practical effects on offer are insane. All these super detailed, weird apocalypse cars were designed for the film only to be wrecked in spectacular fashion. The orange and blue visual motifs are an age-old contrasting trick, but wow do they use it well here. It's so well shot and the scale of these massive vehicle chases just don't get old for me. It's self-aware enough to allow its simplistic plot to remain appealing and the characters aren't left without some solid development to make its quieter road stops engaging. Even if the plot is literally just 'go from point A to point B.... now back to point A', the journey is packed with so many incredible set-pieces that it'd be silly to demand anything more complex.
Pure action movies often end up shallow or only interesting in bursts, because they don't commit to making the action a priority. Either forcing in a clichéd story line, a played out romance subplot or just straight up dead air in between the thrills. Fury Road avoids this by making itself feel like a 2 hour long adrenaline shot.
