Chasing Amy is a more dramatic focused and more mature film than Kevin Smith's previous efforts, and it's no less entertaining due to this change.
This film really shines in it's script, which is original, funny and also touching at times. Smith's direction is kind of flat and the film instead strives with it's good lead performances from Ben Affleck, Jason Lee and Joey Lauren Adams. There's some good comedy in there and the drama never got too sentimental for a cynical asshole like me.
One thing I really didn't like was the soundtrack, the background stuff is okay but the singing number and the opening credit song were awful.
As a whole it's a fairly strong effort and in terms of romantic comedies, it's one of the better I have seen.
