Never does Dead Reckoning quite reach the bar set by the action of the last 4 installments, but there are still a few really great and thrilling sequences. During those sequences this film is fun as hell. I love a good car chase and there’s one in this film that absolutely delivered. When Haley Atwell is out of control doing donuts. Hilarious. In between the action sequences though are too many stretched out dialogue scenes and speeches about the dangers of the Entity and the importance of not letting the key fall into the wrong hands and these scenes becomes verrrryy repetitive. The film has its share of humor, but this one takes itself much more seriously than the others, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I do prefer the lighter tones of its predecessors. Also, not sure how I feel about the way Ilsa was used in this film. It felt like either a fakeout death or a way to write around scheduling conflicts because otherwise it’s a pretty underwhelming utilization of such a great character.
