    Batman is a top-tier comic book movie just for that visual aesthetic, so Jack’s incredible performance as one of the only three good Jokers is just icing on the cake.

    A magnificent, gaudy, supremely entertaining piece of pop art.

    We don’t talk enough about how much Danny Elfman’s score slaps. Or Jack Nicholson’s JPL (jokes per line).

    Oh, and a quick PSA: Batman counts as a Halloween movie.

    Batman is flawed, has an occasionally frustrating script, and is inconsistent with its characters and yet... I adore every second of it.

    Seeing this on the big screen was a total delight and swept me up into the experience like it did however many years ago when I first saw it.

    Criticisms people make about this movie that I hate.

    Jack Nicholson plays himself, not The Joker.

    Wow, what's it like being a close, personal friend of Jack? Tell me all about him.

    This is a Joker movie with Batman.

    Incorrect. Both get backstories, are developed, albeit Bruce in a more subtle way, and have a reason to interact with each other.

    It's dated.

    Still dark. Still hilarious. Still beautiful.

    Not only is Tim Burton's film the first live action Batman film in the modern era, it may be the truest adaptation of the comic book (of its time, at least) we've seen so far.

    At the end of the day, my love for this movie comes down to two things. Jack Nicholson and the production design.
