While a lot of people flocked to Contagion for their pandemic fix, ever since this started I’ve been thinking about Annihilation.
Partly because I’ve been meaning to see how it holds up (it does with the exception of Gina Rodriguez. Yikes!) and partly because it’s ultimately a story of a virus that threatens to engulf the entire planet if drastic measures aren’t taken, in a more fun way. If fun is even the right word to…
This definitely would have made my top 10 if it came out last year like it was originally intended to.
Upon rewatch, a lot of subtle hints, cues and touches I didn't notice my first time around jumped out at me. It confirmed and debunked some of the conceptions I had regarding the movie.
I highly recommend checking this out again if you can.
It's hard to believe that February used to be a dumping ground.
When done right, no movie genre captures my imagination like science fiction does. I love the way filmmakers blow up the balloon of possibility to its breaking point and keep it there just long enough to tell their story.
