Nice seeing Riverdale's Cheryl on the big screen. Hope to see her in more...
Would be lying if I said this wasn't a huge dissapointment. It's not unwatchable and there's some good sequences but it's basically just a redo of the first without much to offer. You kinda have to hope they've got funner ideas for the next two if they were so confident in saying it's a trilogy. If that ends up being the case then maybe that will excuse this soft reboot but I'm not feeling confident. If the first was rather 70s and the sequel 80s, I was sorta hoping we'd get some 90s style filmmaking here. Unfortunately it's just pretty bland and jumpscarey and I couldn't say there's a real vision here beyond 'let's do the Strangers again!'
Like I said, Petsch is great and could be a future scream queen. It has its moments. It's not good. It's not bad. Catch it on streaming. Maybe it'll play better for a teenage crowd who've never seen the first.
