This is an awesome movie! I kept seeing this poster everywhere as a kid, good marketing, it was in like every dvd booklet and magazine. Actually ever since seeing the poster, I wanted to see the movie. And I feel like I might have seen some of it before?
I saw a movie when I was a kid about alien abduction, featuring some blue light, a little boy and the specific scene that I kinda remember took a place in a glasshouse where the kid was hiding... That's all I remember and my memories of it are very blurry which is fitting for a review of this movie. Anyway, after all I don't think the movie I saw as a kid is The Fourth Kind, I thought it was the whole time because some of it does feel familiar but there's no such scene so if you have an idea where it might be from, please, let me know because I will not rest till the day I'll find that movie.
The Fourth Kind... I didn't think I would enjoy a pseudodocumentary this much. But it works so well. I like the editing of the "real" footage with the "reenactments". It uses collages and it moves the pictures throughout the frame which helps to keep your attention really well. But it also knows when to not do that. The eery atmosphere is great, I feel like it's gonna make for a great autumn watch. I also love the colour palette, the blue filter is very fitting. But what I love the most is the actual depiction of everything. It uses mythology and the way it feeds into conspiracies with the combination of how it's visually handled is just so intriguing. I have to say that the characters of the doctor and sheriff are quite incompetent but it didn't bother me at all, you're just kinda watching these people act "wrong" in a way but it moves the plot and it makes sense in that way. And I really liked following the story. One thing did bother me though and it's the voice acting of the "real" doctor - I know what they were going for but after a little while it got really annoying, that's the one thing that I would change for sure.
I have to say that this might be my favourite movie of this subgenre, it's so good.
