I don’t think I’ve ever been this pleasantly surprised by a film before. I’ve held it off for so long because I didn’t think it would be for me (musicals often aren't my thing) but I thought I’d give it a watch before Babylon releases which is one of my most anticipated films of the year. I was actually really concerned to begin with due to the first couple of musical scores. They just didn’t do much for me and I was starting to think the whole thing would just be a bunch of mediocre but well filmed musical numbers.
Luckily I was wrong, I loved practically everything else about this film. It was stunningly colourful, I don’t think the sky has ever looked so good and Justin Hurwitz’s score was amazing and completely elevated the film. The story was beautiful and I thought the ending was perfect. This film can basically be summed up in a single word and that word is magical.
