Finally sat down to watch this acclaimed animated feature about all the webslingers, and it really is a good watch.
It's a loaded cast, lead by Shameik Moore as Miles Morales who does a solid, ok job. Jake Johnson is quite good as an older, jaded Spider-Man. Their mentor-student relationship is very interesting and nice. I really like Hailee Steinfeld as Spider-Gwen and Nicolas Cage as Spider-Noir. There's also strong support from Chris Pine, John Mulaney, Kimiko Glenn, Lily Tomlin, Mahershala Ali, Kathryn Hahn and Liev Schreiber.
I like the story. It's ambitious and interesting, in part due to the multiversal angle, with the various Spider-folks making for a fun dynamic. It has good energy, a sense of urgency, with an action-packed climax but also a lot of fun, with some very funny in-jokes and references.
The groundbreaking animation is outstanding. Stylistic, imaginative, fast and super vibrant with a notable comic book style aesthetics and textures. While not major or super notable, at times it could look distractingly hazy with frame-rate that felt deliberately choppy which I don't like much. The instrumental score is pretty good but the song choices aren't really my style. Except the brief iconic Spider-Man theme song.
A visual spectacle, with a good voice-cast, interesting story that's dramatic, funny and full of webslinging action. Not quite a favorite but I did have a good time going into it.
