Amadeus 1984

Still perfect. Still my favorite film.
Still some of the best acting, directing, editing, cinematography, production design and writing ever out to screen. Still marvel at every single second of this film. Still feel emotionally drained by the ending. Still holds a very special place in my heart.

Unfortunately underwhelmed (though I did enjoy this). I didn’t mind that it was as grand as it was full of shit, and the fact I found this unintentionally funny very often was to me a feature and not a bug. For as incredible as a lot of it is, I ultimately felt it uneven. One note performances, under-written characters, terrible music cues — my usual gripe with “underlying hum” bland instrumentation — and really cheap scare tactics in its horror…

Watched the Coda cut. Better than I remember it (I’ve only seen this once before in contrast to the other two), but I still find it dramatically uninteresting for most of it. Very generous yet peculiar gesture by Cannes to award the Palme D’Or to Parasite again. Though honestly, for a while I thought I’d accidentally started watching Don't Look Up 2.
