i knew comparing this to the first film would be doing it a disservice so i stayed away from that during my viewing. i’m a sucker for these blockbusters and even though i agree with the criticisms about the script, because it wasn’t at it’s best at all times, i had loads of fun. directing and acting wise, i’m impressed. everyone in the cast gave solid performances. even though i’m a fan of paul, i went into this thinking damn what if i don’t love his performance because this is out of the norm for him but i’m happy to say i do! i was completely enamored by his screen presence. sometimes, i do love being nostalgia baited and so, when he put on maximus’ armor, it was such a cool moment. also, when he calls himself the prince of rome…too good. as expected, denzel captivated me every time he was on screen. we lost not getting to see him kiss a man!
