An undeniably stunning arrangement of visual and auditory feat — Nolan’s film is a meticulously woven tone poem set to historical events, not likely as rich with this kind of liquid orchestral motion, but nonetheless a reminder of its deep impact on humanity. As usual, Nolan embeds the film with just enough dream-like sequences to imbue this historical documentation with a sense of the surreal. I have a feeling Emma Thomas plays no small part in breathing the heart into this film.
Yes, it’s a whole lot of well-off, white men talking seriously for a serious amount of time about seriously serious things — but that is our history.
These things are hard on your heart.
