Pretty mindless fun, but anyone going into a gangster movie musical where all the roles are played by children should really expect that from the outset. There's a lot of effort put into this to make it feel like a professional production, including some really impressive (and funny) set/costume design, as well as a pretty impressive consistency in performance quality across the board. The musical numbers are a bit shakier, as solid songwriting is brought down by the inevitably pitchy voices of the performers, which when combined with stiff choreography can make them a bit of a chore to watch at times. Luckily, the film's devotion to sight gags and slapstick comedy keeps things lively and fun in the end, doubly so for the darker jokes at play. For as much of a minor miracle as this movie's existence is, it's biggest issue is actually the script; the plot feels generally listless and a bit repetitive, which makes the moments where everything clicks feel too sparse to really capture my attention the whole way through. Still, the fact that such a stupid premise was played out to such a ridiculous degree kind of made the movie worthwhile to me, and it has enough entertainment value to work before staying out it's welcome.
