While gladiator 2 might have the blandest name possible, I still find it a step better than the original. Maybe it has to do with the quote I just read by someone, about how when something is much lighter and less serious, it is more capable of reaching greater heights than something that is heavy and hard and quick to roll downhill to hell.
Here we have an unserious old fashioned revenge flick set in a decaying world, where an underdog european eventually challenges the conniving brooklyn gangster, who had defeated the clown faced emperors of LA. So the writers probably knowingly, and director ridley scott probably unknowingly, holds this black mirror up to American faces, and they give it a thumbs down. I am entertained.
