Absolutely had the best time with this. I knew I was gonna like it and think it was cute but it was better than expected! the original Beetlejuice was such a formative movie for me, young winona Ryder going through her teenage gloomy phase? Yeah I’ve been there. And just how iconic and perfect it is… a lot to live up to. It’s a classic.
Good thing they assembled the best cast for this sequel, including the originals (Keaton, Ryder, O’Hare) and adding Jenna Ortega, Monica Belluci (her character did nothing but show up and serve), and Willem Defoe, who were all perfect in this. literally all my favorite people and winona & Jenna’s mother-daughter dynamic was so cute. Also Winona is still so stunning to me! Forever crush. But everyone’s funny and likable, the theater was laughing as a whole together several times.
Loved the visuals even though it was mix between cgi and practical effects I feel like this was creative and colorful (added to my to-do 🍄 list so fast). several of the dream sequences or the scenes when beetlejuice is fucking with them using his magic were so fun. Love that this still has that campy feel and doesn’t shy away from ridiculousness
Another cute introduction to horror movie that the younger generation can grow up with, so I think that’s a good thing! Also I hope this encourages more people to see the original
