“Are people born wicked? Or do they have wickedness thrust upon them?”
So… we have another movie about racism.
I never knew much about Wicked before me seeing this. I’ve obviously seen The Wizard of Oz, but all I knew about this was that it was a prequel, and honestly that’s all you need to know. The movie itself is exactly what the trailer shows you, no surprises. Even thought most people choosing to see this know most of the story beats, it would be nice for them to not show the ending of it in the trailer. The story beats are pretty good, the emotional beats can hit home, the cinematography is doable, and pretty much everything else is just good. It feels like everything was perfected to its limit, which is certainly not a bad thing. It just feels so produced by a big company (obviously). Other than about three songs, I didn’t care for them too much. Most of them dragged and couldn’t hit the landing. The only two that really did were popular and defying gravity. The rest were very eh. Overall, this is the perfect Wicked movie. I don’t see how or why they would do it any way else. I simply have some gripes and in reality, I’m not the main audience. This is exactly the type of movie these studios need and want.
