Twisters 2024
Another product of slop culture. Characters are hard to care for and the stakes suffer from a lack of urgency. Doesn’t feel as thrilling to be caught in the path of a destructive force from Mother Nature which is pretty much the requirement for a film like this to succeed. CGI tornadoes aren’t designed well enough to feel imposing. Startling lack of chemistry between Jones and Powell; romantic traid of these characters along with Ramos is another bad narrative detour…

The Substance 2024
A big fuck you to the entertainment industry. The industry that has taken the souls of many women and corrupted them to fit a mostly male dominated gaze only to throw them to the trash once they reach higher in age. The reckoning that has long been ready to upend the status quo. A battle between the young and old and how we can become our worst enemy when it comes to comparison. Not only a battle against the system…

A film with no care and unable to achieve any semblance of respect for itself. Sony should stop making any comic book film without the services of Spider Man; these are turning into a plague.

Candyman 2021
The modern update of the supernatural entity known as Candyman is impressive how it weaves racial and systemic inequalities, generational trauma, Cronenberg body horror, and Hitchcock inspired atmosphere. Nia DaCosta shows that she is a student of the great directors whose bread and butter are psychological thriller/horror; the handle of the camera with its revealing close ups, hypnotizing tracking shots, wide angles, and upside down/reserve motifs keep the viewer on edge and enclosing the senses in an inescapable prison of…
