This franchise really goes all in on the repetitive family descendant storyline, huh? With a 1.7 Letterboxd rating, I expected the absolute worst. Truthfully, those expectations helped because I didn’t hate this. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll probably forget this entire movie in a couple days, but it didn’t bore me. It’s just wholly unnecessary. Candyman works as a standalone film. We don’t need to explore his history in depth, especially when the sequels make a muck of it. Day of the Dead wants to be a slasher first and a Candyman continuation second. The script is filled with cliche after cliche, and I don’t think the writers really cared about telling the audience anything compelling. Lazy stuff here. It’ll be awhile before I ever rewatch due to Donna D’Errico’s horrible screams every 10 minutes.
