Buying shit from SRS is basically playing roulette with what you'll get, though having Ron Bonk's name attached does improve odds somewhat.
This at first seems like a very typical mid 2000s indie slasher, complete with MySpace links in the credits, but it is a parody of the genre. It lives and dies on its humor, which as you can probably guess is pretty juvenile, occasionally topical and meta. Some of it hits, but it's also so obnoxiously stupid that I needed a break halfway through it! Still I progressively enjoyed the film more as it went on.
Equal parts sweet and devastating, a fantastic slice of life into a broken family (and broken people). Mostly served to reaffirm my conviction to never have kids lol
The aspect ratio was a little off putting at first, but it's actually genius. This is a pure character study, and every shot is essentially a portrait of the individual characters. Very intimate.
This is basically The Producers, but as a porn. It's actually very funny and whimsical, with sharp witty dialogue. Bobby Astyr is hilarious and steals the show, but also Ron Jeremy is a great fit here. Hard to believe he actually used to be a pretty attractive guy, and with a great comedic sense. The scene with him and the blowup doll is a riot. It's unfortunate how he ended up.
As expected Roberta's photography looks fantastic.
This was the first RDS film I ever saw. For some reason I didn't immediately run to the hills and now I've seen his entire filmography. I do appreciate this more now that I have some experience; the insane Looped moans, the hypnotic gyrations of our main lady, it's all shit but does generate a sense of something... Desperation? A need to assert control through subversion? Filmmakers who despised making porn make the most interesting porn.
That being said, this is a weaker entry in Steckler's oeuvre. Some rollerskating would definitely liven this up. 🛼🛼
