I was afraid that this movie was going to be underwhelming, but I was thankfully proven wrong! The Wild Robot was an absolutely fantastic story about love in the face of an increasingly frightening and hateful world. The score was beautiful, the voice actors actually feel like they’re acting, with each of the main ones having a moment to shine, and the script is insanely well written, there’s an indisputably iconic line about every other scene. There are even a few banger action scenes, which was unexpected, but welcome! I can’t be too surprised, this is from the same guy who directed How to Train Your Dragon, after all. The characters were amazing too, but Brightbill definitely has to be my favorite out of the main three. Without getting into too much detail, his arc felt the most personal to me and I hope that others like me can see themselves in it too. This movie certainly isn’t perfect, there are a few weirdly paced moments and a couple of out-of-place jokes, but just like a fledgling bird, it picks itself up every time it falters and keeps going. I’ll be thinking about this one for a while, we needed a movie like this in the world we have right now.
