Arbaaz Shroff’s review published on Letterboxd:
Sorry Joaquin, but this was the best acting of 2019.
“three chords and the truth"
Jessie Buckley gives one of the most outstanding performances of the decade in this endlessly charming and grounded tale. The story in itself is quite simple, but every second of Jessie's infectious energy will knock the wind right out of you. And what a voice to top that off, absolutely stunning! A star was born indeed..
Always have tears in my eyes and a smile on my face when I see her perform "Glasgow" at the end (written by our very own Mary Steenburgen). Also "Peace in this house", that scene is the definition of wholesome..
Julie Walters and Sophie Okonedo, just no words for them, you'd be hard-pressed to find better supporting acts.
