In contrast to the typical romanticised portrayal of young love in mainstream cinema, Past Lives stands out with its mature approach and layered contradictions. Despite that, the audience finds themselves drawn to the idealised interpretation of loss, a vision skillfully crafted by director Celine Song, who attributes time and space as the true antagonists of the narrative. A very, very beautiful film.

With minor tweaks in the storylines (the most apparent being the resolution to Nina’s character), the film adaptation of In The Heights took advantage of the medium, flaunting the magic of cinema but keeping the energy of live theatre. All-night fiesta DNA of original material very much intact.
