A movie about a sassy, smart, overachieving Asian girl who loves karaoke, can’t handle her strong emotions and has a deeply ingrained neurotic need to please her mother?! Hardly relatable to me!!
Not only was the red panda freaking ADORABLE, so were the tiny lil kittens. The aunties were so real… the outfits, the makeup, the jewelry (reminds me of my aunties wearing high heeled croc sandals and my hand me down Skechers). A really beautiful story at its heart, I definitely didn’t cry, it’s fine.

Obviously as a Korean, I was predisposed to love this film, and spoiler alert, I did. It’s filled with such raw, emotional, amazing performances I found myself crying on multiple occasions from facial expressions alone. Steven Yeun is truly very good, delivering everything from pure delight while riding his tractor on his land to utter defeat when his hopes are dashed. “pretty girls should always smile” is so evil. especially spoken by a group i fear deeply: older white men.
if I could stand body horror at all I would have appreciated this more.
There are so many ass close ups in this movie. And the waxing that must have been required for (some) of these actors, my goodness.

This period piece has everything: love, friendship, long meaningful eye contact, sunlight dappled shots of the British countryside, a masquerade ball, sweeping score, flowery language and most importantly mutton chops! But really it was a delightful experience, so much so the man next to me snorted with laughter at one point. Some really fun comedic moments and characters and a lot of heart. I shed precisely 1 tear, it was very cinematic.
