barbies and gentleken, greta gerwig has done it once again. or should i say a-ken.
crafted her funniest film yet, without losing an ounce of the heart she always has in her work.
it was a back and forth between the loudest i've ever heard a theater be filled with laughter/applause, and the quietest i've ever heard one get when those moving moments hit. the barbie blowout party did not dissapoint.
margot robbie and ryan gosling both flourish in the roles that they were born to play, with gosling giving you all the smiles in the world, and robbie, along with america ferrera (who has quite the monologue), reeling you back in to the reality of living in it as, not only a woman, but a human being too.
greta has more than proved to capture girlhood/womanhood unlike anyone else out there, and while that's entirely still the case here, we can ALL see ourselves in barbie.
the same way i saw myself in lady bird.
the same way i saw myself in little women.
when it comes to this picture though, whether it's from laughing too hard, or being overwhelmed with emotion, either way, there won't be a dry eye in the house.
