RIP and farewell David Lynch. Never has someone made a bowl of quinoa and broccoli seem so appetising.
Tonight I will sit outside and eat a bowl in your honour 🫡

A Matter of Life and Death 1946
I was so struck by how much goddamn hope there was in this movie, it honestly was close to bringing me to tears.
The constant underlying state of despair felt these days gives so few chances for real hope, that being able to see that true and pure hope felt during the immediate post-war period, just for a brief moment, was almost as painful as it was heart-warming. A modern sensibility (and the cynical part of me) could consider this…

Funny Girl 1968
Idk what (else) they were smoking in the 60s but I will not stand for this Barbra Streisand slander

Love Actually 2003
So many goddamn characters, so little time given to almost any of them, so many loose ends or neglected storylines? Robert Altman would be rolling in his grave
BUT despite this being so extremely painfully corny, cheesy, problematic, hetero, unrealistic, uncritical, unserious, disorganised, and frankly annoying in many parts,, I was still caught smiling at its many moments of stupidity cos "awwww so cuteeee tho 🥰"
Also now I can't stop thinking about if instead of Richard Curtis it was… -
The Room Next Door 2024
While it did pick up a little in the second half and became a bit more thematically rich, I was immediately put off within the first 10 lines by how stilted the dialogue felt (Also very boring framing choices?). I spent way to much time trying to figure out whether it was intentionally off, and Swinton and Moore both did the best with what they were given, when I realised that it doesn't matter if it's intentional if it was still off-putting. If only this wasn't a film that was almost exclusively focused on dialogue, perhaps I would've had more to distract me.

Wicked 2024
The pattern of this movie's release and the hype it's getting has been reminding me so much of Barbie last year. While of course it still bothers me that original works nowadays never get as much attention as those with the name recognition of pre-existing monoliths embedded in our popular culture, I am nevertheless glad that in the past couple years, the ones that have risen above the rest have not forgone their quality and clearly have some care behind…

Joker: Folie à Deux 2024
Joker = Kath and Kim fan CONFIRMED
Honestly the worst part was that by the end it all just felt utterly pointless. Like I would have rather it would've been an actual trainwreck so I felt something, rather than just feeling it was a mediocre exercise in patience.
Cut out all the musical numbers, bring in Saul Goodman, he woulda been a free man in a tight 90 -

Butt Boy 2019
On a day 5 years ago, Tyler Cornack was doomscrolling Twitter, when on his travels he came across the Bruno Powroznik classic OBJECTS THAT I HAVE SHOVED UP MY ARSE. A sudden and burning spark of creative inspiration hit him like a tidal wave. He had always dreamed of making a feature length film, but he had just never found the right idea - Until now. What immediately followed was a 7-hour Red Bull-fuelled writing binge that would put any…

Interview with the Vampire 1994

Where the hell did they pull out a Guns n Roses cover of Sympathy for the Devil from?? Like wtf?
Edit: Woah just looked up the lore behind the song and how it literally was one of the turning points for the band breaking up 🧄🧄
