An absolute showstopper of a debut that delivers.
Having recently rewatched one of the greatest directorial debuts of all time with Michael Mann’s Thief- this felt of a similar vein in terms of assured skill behind the camera. The disparate elements weaved throughout this film reaches a level of viscera and spirituality that I haven’t encountered yet. I’m on the look out, but goddamn Dev Patel.
This fucking rips, so many gratifying moments and then it gets h e a v y with the riffage. The use of music in the club early on- such cheese that feels appropriate for a trashy slime pit for the elites. The way the two main songs are remixed- I felt I was riding the colossal wave like a DJ set.
Fucking threaded the needle into one of the standout films of the year and decade. Achieved through disorientating clarity.
