Rewatched in prep for Across the Spider-Verse tomorrow.
This film is genuinely one of the most incredible things I’ve ever seen, and it gets better with repeat viewings. Gorgeously designed, bursting with energy, color, humor, and charm, it’s completely captivating and wildly entertaining. It also demonstrates a fundamental, inspired understanding of Spider-Man as a character, emphasizing heavily on themes such as struggling with expectation, selflessness, bravery and strength.
Into the Spider-Verse takes both storytelling and the medium of animation to a realm of unprecedented possibilities. It’s probably the closest thing to a comic book in movie form that has or will ever exist. It perfectly captures the unique aesthetic qualities, storytelling devices, expressiveness, and immediacy of that medium, combined with the kinetic and hypnotic qualities of animation. The result is nothing short of awe-inspiring.
