Decalogue I 1989
I had to watch it twice to completely comprehend what Krzysztof Kieślowski was trying to do here. This was as mesmerising as it was depressing, highkey reminds me of Black Mirror so we can also say this was Black Mirror before Black Mirror.
Kieslowski braces the audience for something traumatic from the get go. There is some sense of melancholy in the atmosphere even when something unpleasant has not happened.
After reading the synopsis for this episode, one would expect…

Queer 2024
As an adaptation of “Junkie” author William S. Burroughs’ second novel, “Queer” is about chemical addictions, yes. But it’s even more about being so addicted to a person that, no matter how much you turn yourself inside out trying to get them to love you — charming them with your literary voice, lathering yourself into a stupor on drugs, or even going to the far reaches of a jungle — they will never love you the way you want them…

The Delinquents 2023
redundant. caught me on the first part but its narrative journey using different genres as its main vehicle really took me off entering the second part, then it lost me completely. certainly the concept of freedom, its different meanings and the idea of seeking it as a treasure the film tried to tackle in many ways through its runtime was interesting yet it was not effective to hook me and it ended up landing in that same idea. cinematography was…

The Delinquents 2023
First: anyone who tells you this is a heist movie is trying to sell it. It's absolutely not a heist movie.
Second: It's a three-hour movie that contains a bank robbery and mostly muses on the impossibility of true freedom in the modern world. It contains a lot of beautiful shots, many of which are mucked up (in my opinion) by lead actor Daniel Elias, who I kept thinking of as "Argentine Brett Gelman.” I didn't mind the length but…

The Delinquents 2023

Daddy's Head 2024
Daddy’s Head was a disappointing experience, as I was expecting something really creepy. There was about one scene that actually made me hold my breath, everything else is ineffective jump scares or even worse, no scares. Looking back on the movie, not a lot happens besides a dog barking at a shadow in different scenes. The creature design was cheesy, though I do like the direction they were trying to go with here. Playing on grief is nothing new in horror,…

Daddy's Head 2024
Somewhat like "The Babadook" but just didn't quite get there.
The creature that looked like daddy was creepy but barely got a peep at it.
