Fictio generum,[1] etiam fictio popularis appellata, in commerico librorum venumdandorum, est fictio se accommodans ut in certum genus litterarum apta sit, lectores fautoresque illius generis iam scientes ad se alliciens.[2]

Fictio generum a fictione litteraria plerumque distinguitur, sed nonnulli scriptores fictionis litterariae fictionem generum etiam scripserunt. Exempli gratia, Ioannes Banville mythistorias criminales nomine Benjamin Black etiam profert, ambaeque Doris Lessing et Margarita Atwood fictionem scientificam in vulgus acceptam pepererunt. Georgius Simenon, creator mythistoriarum inquisitoriarum de Maigret, ab Andrea Gide "mythistoricissimus ex mythistoriarum scriptoribus in litteris Francicis" appellatus est.[3]
