Brooklyn-based Ample Hills Creamery opens their first West Coast location in Los Feliz on October 11 in a charming bungalow along Hillhurst, solidifying the neighborhood as a legitimate contender for most exciting LA locale this year. The highly-regarded ice cream company has seven brick & mortar locations in the New York City area, plus some additional seasonal spots and even a scoop shop at Disney World. But this LA bungalow instantly becomes one of the area’s sweet new hangouts, with an outdoor area, colorful environs, and even parking in the back.

Ample Hills originally opened in 2011 in the Prospect Heights neighborhood in Brooklyn from founders Brian Smith and Jackie Cuscuna. In general Ample Hills takes a classic American ice cream approach with creative takes on childhood favorites. The peppermint pattie recalls a York’s chocolate in creamy frozen form while butter pecan brittle starts with sweet, rich brown sugar ice cream.

The creamery uses a dense base that works nicely with their flavors, and the shop’s most iconic variety mixes in St. Louis-style gooey butter cake into vanilla ice cream. A local exclusive flavor here in LA will be the Beneath Las Estrellas, a nod to the nearby Griffith Observatory, and blends dulce de leche and white chocolate pearls into horchata ice cream. Ample Hills Los Feliz will be open daily from noon to 11 p.m. daily.
