Mendocino Farms's Bright Sandwich Heaven Opens November 17 in Santa Monica

Gussied up sandwiches for locavores.

Santa Monica is about to get a fine sandwich alternative to Bay Cities when Mendocino Farms opens its expansive location on November 17. As with other Mendocino locations, expect a market-driven menu of sandwiches, salads, and wraps like the Peruvian steak on a panini-pressed torta bun or the classic Kurobuta pork belly banh mi. Founders Mario del Pero and Ellen Chen wanted to have a design reflecting Santa Monica's proximity to the water, hence vintage boat deck wood on the walls and a floating white rope fixture. Up front, there's a swell beer and wine bar to people watch.

The overall interior comes from BCV Design and Valero Architects, which follow much of the same modern environs of other Mendocino build outs. See the full menu on Mendocino's website, and brace for a bustling debut in a few weeks time. Oh, and Costa Mesa's famed Sidecar Doughnuts is opening next door on the same day, bringing a perfect after-lunch (or dinner) dessert option. Hours aren't confirmed but they'll mostly run 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. like other Westside outlets.
