Akatora, A New Sushi Spot from Michael Cardenas

Matthew Kang is the Lead Editor of the Southern California/Southwest region, and has covered dining, restaurants, food culture, and nightlife in Los Angeles since 2008. He hosted a YouTube show called K-Town, covering Korean food in America and has been featured on Netflix's Street Food.

Akatora, a new sushi spot from Michael Cardenas that takes over the former Katsu spot in Manhattan Beach, is slated for a July 15 debut. Named after Cardenas' grandfather's fishing boat back in Japan, the restaurateur will be previewing some of the bites, including a spicy tuna and popcorn shrimp handroll, during this weekend's first-ever Downtown Night Market. Located on the corner of Rosecrans and Highland, Cardenas hopes to make a splash in both the South Bay and SGV this year.
