Vritra is the first king of the Vritra clan, and Fathomless Fire is his unique transcendental skill. It moves targets to a 0-dimensional space. Their destination is a boundless dimension of nothingness (無) where nothing is permitted to exist, and every form of existence in mind, body and soul that enters it is disintegrated for return to non-existence.[1][2][3]
According to Ravana, this destination is a "never-ending blank space" that blurs the boundary between existing and non-existing.[4]
Use[]
Because having a strong body or resurrecting lives provides no defense against this disintegration, it is a powerful skill with similar use to Gandharva's soul destruction that was used to destroy Shakuntala, Taraka and their infinite lives.[5] It has been compared to Shiva's End of Existence (存在燒失)[2] that did the same to Manasa who can freely time travel across many billion years of timespan and even resurrect herself at the beginning of the universe after each death.[3]
Leaving this dimension once being sent is impossible for humans, nastikas and most gods. Nevertheless, as one of the 5th Zen-level gods who have reached nirvana, Agni himself could transcend existence and return to the highest dimension of god realm.[6] Agni can send himself and shelter another person within this fathomless dimension to protect them from the power of other gods.[7] If someone who was not enlightened gets caught by this transcendental, their only way of escape is to defeat the user and flee before they are moved to another dimension, for once they are moved they cannot leave on their own. The ability activates quickly, in the time it takes someone to say a few words.[6] Vritra himself can return from Fathomless Fire or any dimensions even after being caught through his unique ability Return to Nest.[4]
Plot[]
Half a billion years ago, Agni learned this transcendental skill from Vritra with the Sword of Hellfire that he received from primeval god Brahma.[1] The sword allows its wielder to learn the transcendental he is hit with, but Fathomless Fire can only be used in sura form. Since Agni is a god, it was only after learning Taksaka's Extermination, a sura-form offensive transcendental skill, that he discovered he was able to use other Vritra clan sura-form transcendentals as well.
Agni used this skill in order to talk to Gandharva without being overheard by God Kubera, as it is a bottomless dimension with no boundaries at its bottom to serve as a ground.[7] Originally, he planned to kill nastikas like Gandharva and Taraka using Fathomless Fire as having strong bodies (a form of existence) or resurrection provides no defense against it.[1][5]
Its latest use was in the current era when Agni deployed Fathomless Fire to kill Shakuntala (mistaken for a Taraka sura) and Gandharva who was refusing to kill her.[5] He returned Gandharva back to reality after Shakuntala tricked his father into killing her by pretending to be a Taraka sura, with a promise for Agni to look after him after she is gone forever.
