ソロモンとは、聖書に出てくる人物で、その有名な話に「ソロモンの裁判」というものがある。

2人の女性が同じ赤ん坊を自分の子だと主張し、ソロモンに判断を求めた。ソロモンは子供を2つに割り、2人の女に半分ずつ与えるように命じた。一方の女はそれに同意したが、もう1人は反対し、相手に子供を譲るように求めた。これを聞いたソロモンは、子供を生かそうとする反応を見せた女が本当の母親であると判断した。)
